1. The North Carolina State Bar requires licensed attorneys to complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing legal education each year. Of those 12 hours attorneys must complete 2 hours of ethics/professionalism credit. Also, one hour of substance abuse/mental health credit must be completed once every three years. Attorneys may take up to four (4) hours of online credit each year towards their CLE requirements. Attorneys may also take an additional four (4) hours of online credit which will be banked and applied to the following calendar year. If you are newly admitted to the NC State Bar, please contact them for information about your CLE requirements during the first year. 2. Visit the NC State Bar Paralegal Certification website for more information about the purpose of the certification, requirements for certification, and CPE requirements. Please note that any seminar approved for CLE credit also qualifies for CPE credit. However, seminars approved for CPE credit do not qualify for CLE credit. 4. We understand that you are a busy person and sometimes things happen. If you can't attend a seminar that you've registered for, you have three options:

  • CANCEL WITH A REFUND - You may cancel your registration one week prior to the seminar/replay date for a refund less a $35 service charge. Refunds cannot be given after this date. For CLE Season Ticket Holders - Cancellations must be received by 12:00 Noon the third working day prior to the seminar. Cancellations received after this time will be invoiced for a $77 materials fee.
  • TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SEMINAR – Transfer requests received by 12:00 noon the third working day prior to the seminar are subject to a $50 transfer fee. Transfer requests received after this time are subject to a $110 transfer fee. Registrations may be transferred once and only to seminars scheduled through the end of the fiscal year (June 30).
  • NO SHOW - If you are unable to attend a seminar and do not cancel or transfer your registration, you will be provided the seminar materials in lieu of a refund. For CLE Season Ticket Holders - If you are unable to attend and do not cancel your registration by Noon the third working day prior to the seminar, you will be invoiced for $77 materials fee.

    5. Yes. However, we cannot guarantee that there will be enough seminar materials, so we strongly encourage you to pre-register. Occasionally, we have seminars that have limited seating. If that is the case, the information will be printed in the seminar brochure.

    6. The NC State Bar requires sponsors of video replays to have a minimum of 3 pre-registered attendees in order to show a video replay. Our staff monitors our registrations and will cancel a replay one week in advance if there are not enough pre-registrations. If you have registered and the replay is cancelled, you will be notified prior to the date of the replay. If you have not registered for a video replay and plan to register on-site, please contact our office at least two days prior to the start to ensure the replay is still scheduled (800.688.1413).

    7. Generally our video replay registration begins at 8:00 am and the replay begins at 8:30 am. This time may change depending on the seminar. Click here for detailed information about individual replays.

    8. No. The MCLE rules do not allow an individual to watch a video recording of a seminar for CLE credit. You can only get credit if you attend a scheduled replay that meets the NC State Bar requirement of having at least 3 pre-registrants at a location.

    9. We are excited about our ability to offer more live seminars via live webcast. If you would like to register for a live webcast, go to www.fastcle.com or call FastCLE at 866.702.3278 (please note that we do not process registrations for webcasting through the NC Advocates for Justice office).

    Also, if you have any technical difficulties during the webcast, please contact FastCLE customer service at 866.702.3278. They will be happy to assist you.

    There are no NC State Bar restrictions on the number of CLE hours you can receive annually by participating in webcast seminars.

    The NC State Bar allows attorneys to report up to 4 CLE hours annually taken online.

    11. If there is impending inclement weather, please check our home page for information at www.ncaj.com or call 800.688.1413 for a recorded message.

    If a video replay is scheduled at a community college, the video replay will be cancelled if the college is closed. Please check the community college webpage or call them directly for information. We encourage you to use your best judgment if inclement weather occurs.

    12. The CLE Season Ticket allows you to pay one price and attend most* of the live seminars and video replays during our fiscal year (ending on June 30). If you would like to purchase a CLE Season Ticket, download the brochure.

    Once you have purchased the CLE Season Ticket, you can register for seminars by mail, fax, or phone (online registrations are not available).

    We strongly encourage CLE Season Ticket holders to pre-register for seminars!

    *Some of our programs do not apply to the CLE Season Ticket. See the "exceptions" listed in the brochure and for other guidelines regarding the CLE Season Ticket.

    13. Your profile in our database is recognized by the email address we have on file. If you have a new email, please do not create a new profile! If you have changed your email address, call our office (800.688.1413) and we will update your current profile with your new contact information.

    14. The NC State Bar requires CLE sponsors to report CLE attendance within thirty days of the seminar. Typically your credit should show up on your NC State Bar report within thirty days. To check your NC State Bar records visit www.nccle.org. After thirty days, you may contact our CLE department if you have any questions.
